5th Annual Voice Day

November 5, 2011

South Shore Conservatory invites voice students of all ages to join them for Voice Day on Saturday,
November 5 at the Duxbury campus.  Our wide array of masterclasses is designed benefit vocalists at all levels of expertise. You don’t need to be a Conservatory student to participate!

Free for SSC students
$10 for non-SSC students

Barbara Wilson Arboleda

GUEST PRESENTER

Barbara Wilson Arboleda, MS CCC SLP, is a licensed speech-language pathologist, singing teacher, and an active leader in the Boston chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.  Her DVD, "The Kid and the Singing Teacher,” produced in conjunction with master singing teacher, Robert Edwin, has received positive reviews by singing teachers and the Journal of Singing.  She is a certified master teacher of the Estill Voice Training System and a Level 1 graduate in LoVetri Somatic Voicework.  Barbara specializes in the healthy performance and teaching of Contemporary Commercial Music (rock, pop, country, and folk).

Dr. Bonnie Pomfret

SSC FACULTY PRESENTER

Dr. Bonnie Pomfret (Associate Professor at Boston University; former President of the McCloskey Institute) has sung music from the 12th to 21st centuries in seven languages in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has appeared as soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Atlanta Symphony, Sinfonia da Camera, Olympia Chamber Orchestra, and her CD of women composers, with a song cycle composed for Bonnie by Libby Larsen, was released in 2005.

Fun with the “Tions” - Barbara Wilson Arboleda

Good singing comes easily for kids when they discover the seven “tions”: position, articulation, resonation, etc. . . .   Barbara is a national leader in vocal pedagogy for children and this fun session is not to be missed!


3:00-3:45 pm
All Ages
Great Singing Starts with Good Speaking – Barbara Wilson Arboleda

In our daily lives we speak more than we sing, so it is important that we learn to speak well. This session will give you general tips and individual feedback for developing healthy speaking habits that are sure to help your singing voice.  This is a valuable opportunity to consult a noted speech pathologist – for FREE.

Do You Hear What I Hear? – Barbara Wilson Arboleda

This workshop will help teen singers learn how to listen critically to the sounds they want to emulate. Which sounds are authentically produced by the singers and which are produced with electronic enhancement?  Is that singer belting or mixing? Is there vibrato or a straight tone? We'll learn to listen for function and how to figure out various singers' recipes for success.

Acting the Musical Theatre Song – Barbara Wilson Arboleda

This workshop is oriented toward adults who are eager to learn how to bring a more authentic character to their musical theatre singing. We'll try a few basic techniques for connecting song text to context and emotional intent.  Be ready to expand your acting horizons.

High School Seniors
Singing the Entrance Audition – Dr. Bonnie Pomfret

This special masterclass will help prepare current seniors for college auditions.  Bonnie is an Associate Professor at Boston University, as well as former faculty at Emory University and Illinois State University.
