Summer Theatre Workshop

Summer Theatre Workshop
Class 2010

August 2 - 20
Emily Arsenault, Director

South Shore Conservatory’s Summer Theatre Workshop provides young people of all ages an opportunity to explore the process of “making theatre” from start to finish.  In age-appropriate workshops, students embark on fun-filled dramatic journeys through acting, movement, singing, and playwriting.  Students may choose a one, two, or three-week performing arts experience, during which they will actively develop their creative interests and grow as confident, young artists.

Across all levels, the core element of the Summer Theatre Workshop philosophy is our commitment to exposing students to original creative material.  While our youngest members perform each week in a musical adaptation of a favorite tale developed specifically for our workshop, older students are supported and guided as they imagine, write, and perform their own theatrical creations.

Each Friday, students conclude their one-week session with a presentation showcasing their experiences in acting, music, and movement.

STW “Curtain Going Up”
Ages 4–7
9 am – 12 noon
Tuition  One week: $200         Two weeks:  $375        Three weeks:  $535

In this morning workshop designed for our youngest budding performers, students are introduced to the world of theatre through dramatic play, movement, music, and art activities.  Each week, students participate in age-appropriate story dramas, learn several theme-related original songs, and present a “mini-musical” at the end of the week.

STW “Center Stage”
Ages 8–12
10 am – 2 pm
Tuition  One week: $275         Two weeks:  $520        Three weeks:  $750

In addition to workshops in improvisation, scene study, movement, and musical theatre techniques, students have the opportunity to collaborate in the development of an original revue which they present to friends and family each Friday.  Guided by STW specialists, students craft new works based on a weekly theme which serves as a creative thread throughout each day’s activities.

STW “Spotlight”
Ages 13 and up
10 am – 2 pm
Tuition  One week: $275         Two weeks:  $520        Three weeks:  $750

Students enjoy a more intensive exploration of the creative process, with insight into the breadth of the theatrical experience.  Through workshops in acting, movement, playwriting, and musical theatre, students have the opportunity to identify and explore their individual interests, and work with STW faculty to develop and polish solo and ensemble performance material over the course of each week.
