Flute Symphony

NEW! Groove Workshop
July 28-August 8
Focusing on rock, funk, jazz and Latin music, this new workshop for rhythm section players explores the roles each instrument plays in each of these styles. Musicians expand their knowledge, enhance their tone, and improve their skills.

Incorporating singing, percussion instruments, improvisation, and creative movement, children explore summer themes. This fun, interactive class turns children's natural aural, vocal, and kinestheticabilities into performance skills.

NEW! Voice Class for 7-9 year olds

This interactive class introduces young singers to their instruments through the basics of breath and body support, sound projection, ear training, sight-singing and song selection. Students learn fun and age-appropriate way to sing and express themselves. Everyone is a star in the final performance!

Voice Class for 10-12 Year Olds

For the student with a love for singing, this preparatory voice class provides instruction in a small group setting, allowing for more individual attention. The class lays the base for students planning to take private lessons in the future. The curriculum covers singing technique, ear-training, sight singing, and repertoire.

NEW! SSC Idol Class
Kaoruko Pilkington
Ages 8-14
In this exciting new American Idol-style class, students receive coaching on their favorite pop songs and learn to give and take constructive criticism. After a brief overview of the weekly topic and skills surrounding it, students perform for a panel of three peer judges. Over the six-week class, students serve as both judges and performers.
Requirement: willingness to sing solo in the class.

A Capella Ensemble for High School Girls

A small-group experience for the motivated high school singer. Girls will sing in complex harmony, building musical skills, foreign language diction, and vocal technique.

Adult Voice Class

For adult singers looking for a technical brush-up to support their choral or theatre singing, this class is a great follow-up to Woman Song! Prepare solo and small group songs and learn basic vocal technique in a fun, informal setting.
Hingham: Monday – 6:30 - 8 pm – four weeks starting June 23
Duxbury: Monday – 6 - 7:30 pm – four weeks starting June 16

NEW! Vocal Jazz Improvisation
Kaoruko Pilkington
Ages: adults and jazz-focused high school students
This exciting new class teaches scatting from the ground up. Students learn a simple blues tune, trade vocal lines back and forth with the teacher, and eventually use that blues tune to experiment with rhythmic and melodic themes, embellish vocal lines, and finally create their own unique versions of the song.

Basic Musicianship
Edwina Li
Learn about the fundamentals of music, from time signature to note and rest values, staff reading, and rhythms. This class is helpful for those who need more practice, who want to brush up, or those who are thinking of returning to music lessons and would like a head start. It complements any private music lesson.

AP Music Theory Prep

Need a head start on AP Music Theory? Any student who is considering the idea of taking the AP Music Theory Exam is highly encouraged to take this course, which reviews music fundamentals and prepares students for the demanding curriculum that is integral to any AP course.

Classical Music Studies (CMS)

Any student interested in this comprehensive program is encouraged to participate this summer! This program is especially beneficial to current CMS and Home School Arts Institute students.

Comp Camp!
June 23 - July 2, 9 am - 12 noon

Ages 10 through high school
Budding Beethoven Fürelisians, blossoming Norajonesians and other future composers are invited to bring their musical imagination to Comp Camp! This intensive, hands-on, ears, mind and instinct training of the inner composer, focuses on the writing and poetry of music , and on instrumental composing. Participants must have two years of music lessons.
