The String Department of South Shore Conservatory
Proudly Presents Our Second Annual
STRING DAY
Saturday, March 13, 2010, 12-4 pm
Cox Hall, South Shore Conservatory One Conservatory Drive, Hingham MA
Featuring the Boston Public Quartet
Free to Registered SSC or BaYS Students, $10 Donation for the General Public
Come play with us at this very special, second annual event devoted to string playing and music. The Boston Public Quartet shares its new model for music education and performance that brings together musicians, teachers and families. In this model, developed during their residency at the Chittick School in Mattapan, music is not simply a lesson or a concert, but a means of transformation and connection to the larger community.
Messy Music, 12-1 pm
This program, especially for children ages 3 to 7, is designed as a chance for young artists to explore the connection between the visual arts and music through a live, interactive performance by the Boston Public Quartet. This program has received much acclaim from students and parents at the Chittick School and other venues in the Boston area.
A Very Open Rehearsal, 1:30-2:30 pm
In A Very Open Rehearsal, the BPQ and string faculty will join in a special open rehearsal of a work to be performed on the afternoon’s closing concert, but with a twist: audience members, with the help of a moderator, will be invited to participate in the process, and are encouraged to make suggestions and ask questions as the rehearsal unfolds. All ages and experience levels welcome!
The Boston Public Quartet and special guests from the SSC Faculty In Concert, 3-4 pm
The finale of our day’s events will be an interactive concert by the BPQ and guest SSC faculty. The musicians will present some of the finest string quartet repertoire, including the work they rehearsed in the previous session. Leave inspired and challenged to explore string music and playing, or maybe even sign up for lessons at the Conservatory!
