Meet the Artist Educators
Director of Programs and Curriculum, Assunta "Su" D'Ambrosio holds an MM from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, a BA in Music from Smith College, and Orff certification from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. At South Shore Conservatory she is the preschool and kindergarten classroom music specialist, as well as teacher for
Drum and Sing! and private recorder lessons. She taught general and instrumental music in public schools for 17 years, most recently as an instrumental music specialist for Norwell Public Schools. Before taking the position as Director of Programs and Curriculum, Su also taught preschool and kindergarten music at Kids Port Learning Center in Plymouth, where she lives with her husband, Bob, and her two daughters, Maria and Rosa.
Avis Goldstein is the visual arts specialist for the Conservatory's kindergarten program. A retired Hingham kindergarten teacher, Avis has introduced her SSC kindergarten students to many famous artists. She encourages her students to try painting in the styles of each artist, and then has sent photos of some of their artwork to museums around the world. Some museums have written the school back, thanking Avis for sending the artwork, and encouraging her students to continue in the arts.
Adrienne Perfetuo, dance instructor, has a B.A. in Dance and Performance Studies from Roger Williams University . She has been studying dance for 16 years, from Ballet to Jazz, Tap to Hip Hop, although her main focus is Modern and Creative dance. She has also trained thoroughly in Figure Skating.
Teaching and choreographing is a huge passion for Adrienne. "Working with children is so fulfilling and rewarding, there isn't anything I would rather do," says Adrianne. A piece Entitled "Emotional Divide," choreographed by Adrienne, was featured and adjudicated in the American College Dance Festival, and received great reviews! In the future, she plans to attend graduate school to pursue more education in the field of teaching.
Adrienne joined the South Shore Conservatory faculty in 2005.
Ed Sorrentino, Department Chair, received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Berklee College of Music. In addition to being a percussion instructor and Summer Wind Ensemble Program Director at South Shore Conservatory, Ed is a regular performer with New England Percussion Ensemble, a trio of percussionists recognized as one of the most in demand groups for cultural enrichment in the region. He was recently recognized for his innovative work with adults and children with disabilities. Ed is also well known as a topnotch freelance drummer, something that requires him to wear a variety of musical hats and provide solid percussion for many of the area's jazz, rock, dixie and show bands.
