Why Arts-Based Learning
Arts Principled Education Is…
• Social: Our students learn to make new friends, take turns, share, resolve conflicts, respect others and feel confident about themselves, which are basic elements in all arts activities. • Visual: Art, in all of its media, is a tool for introducing and exploring new concepts as well as an outlet for students' imaginations. • Musical/Aural: Students focus listening skills, recognize patterns, discover their singing voices and respond to steady beat and rhythm. • Kinesthetic: Children are free to move through activities that will allow them to develop fine and gross motor control as well as internalize concepts physically. • Creative and Imaginative: With an emphasis on process vs. product. Images that children share through imaginative play are incorporated into class lessons. • Playful!: Play is the primary way that children process information. Allowing ample time and avenues for free play gives children the opportunity to think about and understand what they are learning in class. ArticlesArts-based Kindergarten
