Music Is... Awards

Established in 2011, the Music Is… award was designed to recognize exceptional service given by a faculty or staff member to South Shore Conservatory.   SSC is fortunate to be an organization where staff and faculty continuously share their time and talents, often going above and beyond in order to further its mission.  So recognizing someone for exceptional service is exceptional. The award is not given annually but reserved for extraordinary contributions to SSC.

The first recipient of the award was piano faculty member and talented composer, John Kramer.   Named for John’s stunning composition Music Is…,written to celebrate SSC’s 40th anniversary, the piece engaged the entire SSC community by inviting everyone to finish the sentence “Music is…”  which provided lines for the lyrics.  The composition involved students and faculty from all departments in the final production.  John not only created a piece designed to highlight all that makes SSC an extraordinary place, but donated the composition to SSC as well as his time to rehearse and conduct the orchestra and chorus – not once but twice!

The following people have been recognized with SSC's highest award for their exceptional service in the fulfillment of our mission and values.
