Summer after summer, Flute Symphony players come to South Shore Conservatory to meet and perform with some of the area’s best professional and amateur flutists.
The program acquaints students with a variety of music styles, from baroque and classical, to “pop” and jazz, and introduces the music of present-day composers. Students gain stronger skills in reading, intonation, listening, breathing, improvisation, phrasing and musicianship, and learn to think in terms of harmony as well as melody.

Challenge yourself with the solo competition! This year's competition piece is Hindemith's Acht Stücke. Artists Ensemble participants will compete with the 1st and 2nd movements, and Advanced Artists Ensemble participants will compete with the 5th, 7th and 8th movements. Winners receive a cash prize and a solo performance.
Delve into the world of chamber music! Artist and Advanced Artist Ensemble members may audition to perform in a smaller ensemble setting and work as a team. Each group meets individually for an hour before their scheduled Flute Symphony rehearsal time. Auditions are held on the first night of Flute Symphony. No extra fee for chamber music.
