Nicole Craven

Nicole Craven, MT-BC: Nicole is a board-certified music therapist and licensed music educator for grades K-12. She holds a Bachelors of Music (emphasis in vocal music education) from the Hartt School of Music and a Master’s degree in music therapy and mental health counseling from Lesley University. She enjoys using music to help facilitate positive social interactions, build community, and give individuals and families a way to interact in a fun and creative environment.
Nicole has worked with several different populations of children and adults, both as a music educator and music therapist. She taught general music K-8 in the Avon Public Schools for three years, where she developed and wrote the K-8 curriculum, and taught in several integrated classrooms. During her graduate studies, Nicole completed two year-long music therapy internships. At the Benjamin Healthcare Center, she worked with individuals, dyads, and groups of adults (50+) diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, depression, or who suffered from physical ailments or disabilities. At the ARC of the South Shore’s First Early Intervention program, Nicole worked with young children (0-3) with developmental delays and their families, focusing on developing speech, communication, and socialization skills. She has been able to continue this work since joining the staff at First Early Intervention as a music therapist in the summer of 2011. Additionally, Nicole has spent many years teaching parent-child music classes in Mamas Move in Norwell, MA. Here, she has also helped create and develop Express Yourself! (art, music, and movement classes for children with developmental delays), which will begin in the Fall 2011.
Nicole is a cantor at St. Francis of Assissi in Braintree, MA, and has sung at several other local parishes. She has been a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus since 2004. Past performing experience include member and featured soloist of the Hartt Choralle, Hartt Chamber Singers, Hartt Choir, L’Shir (co-ed acapella group). She has also performed in Bay Colony Productions’ Beauty and the Beast and Oklahoma!
