Emily Browder Melville

Soprano Emily Browder Melville approaches singing with passion, curiosity, and intelligence. She is an active performer and committed teacher and seeks to bring joy and discovery to all facets of musical life.
Emily is accomplished in multiple vocal styles. Her classical credits include numerous roles with Opera Boston, including Mary Warren in The Crucible, Paquette in Candide, Aloës in L’étoile, Pauline in La Vie Parisienne, and Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore. Recordings include the role of the Boy in Lukas Foss’s Griffelkin with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Eve in Daniel Pinkham’s Garden Party, and soprano soloist in The River of Love, produced by New England Voices. Upcoming engagements include the holiday pops concert of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra in December, 2011.
A founding member of the jazz-inspired vocal trio, E.S.P (with Patrice Williamson, Sandi Hammond, and pianist-arranger Mark Shilansky), Emily has been featured on “Eric in the Evening” on WGBH and played to eager audiences at notable Boston venues. E.S.P. is currently working on their first studio recording under the guidance of Kim Nazarian of the Grammy-award winning quartet New York Voices.
Emily also recently appeared in the lead role of Samantha in MONSTERS: the Musical at Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, ME with GP Productions. Other musical theater credits include Boston Music Theater Project as St. Catherine in Joan of Arc and Walter Robinson Productions in the role of Zipporah in Moses. She has also performed Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, and as Woman One in Jacques Brel . . .
Emily is a board-certified music therapist, certified Wellness Inventory® facilitator, and certified Voice Movement Therapist.
Emily has taught voice since 1998 at the New School of Music in Cambridge, served as music coach for Tunefoolery Concert Ensembles since 2000, and taught the family-music program Music Together since 2002®. She earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music, a bachelor of Music Therapy equivalency from Anna Maria College, and a bachelor degree in American Studies from Reed College.
Emily has been on the South Shore Conservatory voice faculty since 2009 and assumed the chair of the voice department in June, 2011.
