NEW! Concert Conversations
In conjunction with Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, Duxbury Music Festival, and South Shore Conservatory 2009/2010 performances, Concert Conversations teaches participants all they need to know to fully appreciate the music they might hear in concert. Through lively conversation, presenters and participants discuss the background, history and composer's intent of each piece. Even if they do not attend the concerts, students gain a new understanding of some important pieces from the classical repertoire and the composers who created them. Note: Participants are encouraged to read a couple articles online and to listen to several of the pieces being performed prior to the conversation, so that they’ll better understand the discussion.

Basic Musicianship

Basic Musicianship is offered to all private lesson students to supplement their music literacy. These one hour classes review and teach basic elements of music such as keys and key signatures, time signatures, rhythms in various meters, form and basic solfege. Offered at various times during the week to accommodate student’s varying schedules. 12 weeks

Jazz for Classical Musicians

Are you a classical musician who likes jazz? Are you 14 or older with intermediate or advanced skills? This 12-week class provides the skills to understand and play music in the jazz style. Learn how chord progressions work, basic phrasing and patterns drawn from Jazz pieces, become familiar with the language of jazz and how to apply it to your instrument. All instruments are welcome, including voice!

NEW! SSC Community Voices
Open to individuals 16 years of age and older, SSC Community Voices provides a choral opportunity for adults and young adults with developmental delays. Singing in an ensemble, individuals will have the opportunity to develop and refine vocal technique, listening skills, and team-work. Repertoire will include songs from the masters, traditional and folk favorites, as well as pop and Broadway tunes. Performances are scheduled in December and June.

Session I begins September 16 for 12 weeks, culminating in a performance on December 16.
Session II begins January 13 for 18 weeks, with a performance on June 13.

Opera by the Bay

Opera by the Bay (OBTB) brings together adult vocalists who have a mutual love of opera. Participants for each production are chosen through periodic auditions, and in a supportive environment, gain valuable musical and dramatic experience from each other. Differences in style and technique are shared in a non-judgmental manner, encouraging musical and personal growth while upholding high performance standards. Rehearsals are scheduled on Monday and Friday evenings to make them accessible to the busy professional. No fee.

Join OBTB Artistic Director Beth MacLeod in honing your skills – vocal as well as dramatic. Repertoire is hand picked for each participant to make the most of their talents and to challenge them to further grow as a singer and actor. Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for private lessons for children whose families can document financial need. Application forms are available in the office and as a downloadable Word Document and must be filled out and returned prior to the first week of the semester. All applications will be considered by the Scholarship Committee, which meets before each semester to grant assistance. Recipients of scholarship aid must reapply each semester.
